Islington Canal Tales by Linda Wilkinson (Heritage Lottery Funded)

The Regent’s canal literally connected Islington to the rest of world - bringing desired goods and attracting undesirable antics bringing Islington it’s unique character.

Young Actors Theatre Islington have come together with pupils from the Blessed Sacrament Primary School in Islington to bring the stories of the Regents Canal alive.

Islington has physically changed dramatically over the last 100 years due to bombings in World War two, and changes in industry. The Regents canal is one of few landscape features of the area that has remained and serves as a connection from past to present as it heads towards it’s 200th anniversary in 2020.

Playwright Linda Wilkinson has created a specially commissioned play based on real memories of what life was like in Islington for it’s older residents when they were just children. The tales of 10 year-olds in the 1940’s and 50’s are now retold by today’s 10 year-olds.
